What the Funk, Recall is Over?

June 15th, 2009 · No Comments

For over a year, a group of “concerned citizens” of Kansas City have been trying to recall Mayor Mark Funkhouser. Today the Kansas City Business Journal is reporting that it is over. The Funk will stay and the “concerned citizens” will go. Supporters of the initative say they can no longer fund the Recall the Fu*k Funk campaign.

Harris Wilder has this astounding tidbit of information to pass…

Lawyers don’t work for free.

Wilder said the campaign needed another $10,000 – $15,000 to continue and “The Establishement” chose not to contribute to a court battle.

I am telling you, KC has so many problems, that it’s a shame the City has been forced to spend time and effort on things like this that are successful go no where. Education and Infrastructure needs to be this City’s focus, not the one person nepatism and a going no where recall. A City of 450,000 residents and they can’t get the 16,000 signatures? That’s only 3.5% if you were wondering…Of course, if they would have used ACORN they would have found 600,000 signatures to use and the people responsible for counting them would have come back with 1.2 million counted.

Westport Flooded

June 9th, 2009 · No Comments

westport-flood-6-9-09

Looks like KCMO could use a couple more of those Obama Bucks. When you have this kind of flooding in a populated area like Westport and you as City Manager have done nothing to fix it, that is rediculous.

DJ Jazzy Jeff is a pussy.

June 9th, 2009 · No Comments

This putz is crying racism because he has an incompetent production staff. You know if he was any good anyway, he wouldn’t still be doing “free” venues and clubs. Hell, I can call myself a DJ. I have a mixer on my computer and have done a couple weddings and proms, and even I know what a redline is and what distortion can do to a speaker…anyway, Cordish, the company that runs P&L is finding themselves on the bad end of racial cries once again. I am only guessing because everyone likes to call Cordish racist. Someone probably whispered into Jazzy’s ear, “Hey, we just blew 9 of the 12 speakers, yell RACIST and run!”

Cordish released this Press Release:

STATEMENT REGARDING DJ JAZZY JEFF PERFORMANCE

On Saturday night Kansas City Live! was proud to feature a DJ performance by Jazzy Jeff. Jazzy Jeff is a tremendous artist with a long and successful history in the hip-hop/rap music genre and KC Live! was honored to have Jazzy Jeff play the venue. The event played by Jazzy Jeff was the second year of a similar promotion, last years featuring Mix Master Mike. We were delighted to feature the music that Jazzy Jeff is famous for. That is why he was scheduled to perform and his performance was excellent and exactly what we expected when he was scheduled.

The problem that occurred was solely technical in nature. KC Live! is not a traditional concert venue and thus the sound amplification and the type of sound waves compatible with the overall sound system are an issue with some production companies accustomed to concert venue shows. Whenever possible KC Live! handles the production of the shows however this artist supplied his own production staff. Thirty minutes into his performance the venue production engineers repeatedly informed the artists production staff that the system was being red-lined and that volume needed to be lowered to prevent damage to the system. The artists personnel ultimately refused and the artist terminated the concert for that reason. To characterize this incident in racial terms is absurd and illogical. We scheduled Jazzy Jeff proudly, knowing exactly his repertoire of music.

There was in fact extensive damage done to the system due to the performance. There are twelve high end drivers in the main cabinets of the sound system. Nine of the twelve high end drivers of the sound system were permanently damaged by the “square” sound wave being sent from the artists production which put the overall system is distress. Had the levels been adjusted in a quick manner the system would not have been damaged. Problems in aligning artist and venue production have occurred with other performers, for example the rock and roll band Lights and Siren stopped in mid concert to prevent damage to the sound system.

We would happily have Jazzy Jeff return as often as his schedule would accommodate and he is booked at another facility which is affiliated with Kansas City Live!

Tiller’s Killer Apprehended by Jo Co Sheriff

May 31st, 2009 · No Comments

Two sheriff’s deputies figured the suspect would be heading back home via I-35. They were correct. Those two deputies were joined by three others when they did see the suspect’s car pass them. They pulled him over just south of Gardner’s main exit, and with guns drawn upon him, he surrendered without incident. The 51-year old white male is already back in Wichita.

Rockfest 2009

May 31st, 2009 · No Comments

Rockfest was yesterday. I thought they had a pretty good lineup and Liberty Memorial is a great place to have something like this. I was at a Spiritfest there about 42 years ago. Festivals just aren’t my thing. Not sure I like spending that much time that close to my fellow man, in and out of Port-o-potties etc… They do make for great people watching, and that is a past time I truly enjoy. They reported 50,000 in attendance and gates were open from 11am to midnight as I understand. I am still keeping an eye out for the YouTube of a good ass kicking. It happens every year and I am sure this is no exception.

I think that a special recognition for Johnny Dare and 98.9 is in order. I truly believe that this festival is so successful because of the awareness to keep the pricing down and provide an atmosphere where you can enjoy the show. Less than $20 for a ticket and Food and Beverage under $5 is great. I am even willing to bet they still made a profit without the gang raping of the consumer. Good for them and can’t wait for next year!

Be sure to check out the forums if you were there and share any storys or pictures you might have from the event.

Band line up on the Main Stage was:
Korn

Buckcherry
Shinedown
Corey Taylor
Theory of a Deadman
Saving Abel
Rev Theory

Jiggle Jam returns this Weekend

May 19th, 2009 · No Comments

More than 20,000 parents, children and relatives attended to the first ever Jiggle Jam Family Music Fest, making it the largest family music festival in the Midwest. And, there’s even more in store for 2009.

The giants are coming back! They Might Be Giants, the alternative rock duo that has left humongous footprints on records, Grammy-winning soundtracks and kid-show theme songs, showed Kansas City that young families can play, sing, dance, listen and learn together at last year’s festival. And, they’ll be back to headline the second annual Jiggle Jam Music Fest over Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, at Crown Center.

In addition to live, youth-oriented performances by They Might Be Giants, Dan Zanes, Brady Rymer, Justin Roberts, Trout Fishing in America, and favorite Kansas City performers like “Mr. Stinky Feet and Funky Mama”, the festival features musical workshops, puppet shows, craft activities, shopping, games, food and drink. Wonderscope, will be among the special activities, as well as musical chairs and coloring, and the grounds of Crown Center Square will be set up with the popular bubble tents and bouncy toys.

The first festival of its kind in the Midwest, Jiggle Jam is designed to generate the most joyful sound in the world – that of families having fun together!

Time for the Media to BACK the eff Off ‘eh?

May 19th, 2009 · No Comments

George has a few @!#$in opinions about the media of Kansas City. George Gary Busey lets a few choice words fly, but I would assume it takes a Hall of Famer to make a point.
